Choosing the right size sex toy

Choosing the right size sex toy

Ever looked at the range of sex toys available and wondered – how do I choose? Product reviews can be really helpful, but they can’t tell you exactly how something will feel to you personally…….

One of the most common questions when buying a new toy (especially if it’s your first!) is how to choose the right size. We all have different body shapes – internally as well as externally – so one person’s ‘ooh yes’ is another’s ‘oh no’.

Sizing sex toys don’t just guess!

Although we all have an idea of roughly what six inches looks like, if you’re picking your first toy it can help to use a ruler or tape measure to get a visual picture of what will arrive when you order.

Alongside the images, every toy on Belle De Soir has size descriptions – most typically length and width. If you click on the ‘information’ tab you can get sizing for all the products.

The length refers to the full length of the toy, and this might include the battery pack on the end (if it’s a rabbit style vibrator, for instance) or the base of the toy as well.

The width refers to the diameter. Some guys measure themselves by wrapping a tape measure around it and quoting their ‘girth’, which can often be hard to picture. The diameter, on the other hand, should be easier to visualise and will give you a good idea of the overall thickness.

Sex toy texture and size

It’s important to remember that the sex toy material can have an effect on which size is right for you.

More rigid toys such as glass dildos can feel larger because they don’t flex in the same way as softer rubber or silicone toys. If you’re keen to go for something big, but you’re relatively new to sex toys, you might want to try a large dildo in a more flexible material.

Testing sex toy sizes

If you’re still not sure about sex toy size, try a kit that’s put together with different toys in different lengths and thicknesses. This is especially helpful if you’re starting out with anal play ・ how do you know what will work best for you? Anal plug kits are a great place to start – you can begin with a narrower toy and experiment with different ones until you find something that fits you comfortably and stimulates all the right places.

If you’re planning on buying your first toy, try out the tips above and choose a sex toy that’s the right size for you. We’ll be answering more questions on the blog in coming weeks, so let us know if there are any other issues you’d like us to tackle.

If you’ve bought toys before, we’d love to know how you selected your first one ・ what was most important to you when you made your first ever purchase?
